okay, well here she goes. i am not 100% ready to sell her but i thought i'd put her up on ebay and see what happens. this is a vary rare land rover series, labeled as the stage 1 V-8, this was the pre-defender 110. land rover started putting V-8's in the 109's for a couple of years then changed them to the 110's. it has the rover 3.5 which is actually a buick 215 with a lucas distributor. so you can get most parts at your local auto store. when land rover put these motors in they detuned them by putting restrictor plates under the carbs. well in order to get better performance and get better gas mileage i have replaced the intake and carbs with an edlebrock manifold and holley 490 carb. the car runs perfect with this setup. power when you need it and good on gas when you just cruise, well good as a truck can get. i also had the heads re done, new valves, springs and upgraded the gaskets to the compressed type rather than the tin which blow very easily. new head bolts and only using the two top rows of the heads, the bottom bolts actually put a unneeded torque that was also part of the head gasket problem. (most good land rover shops that deal with these older rovers will confirm this). the alternator was also upgraded to the gm type 94 amp, new water pump, new oil pan gasket and screen for oil pump, gearbox and transfer case fluid changed. the truck has the LT-95 gearbox which is about the strongest land rover built, it is a 4spd. with this the truck will cruise at 65 no problem, 75 yes but the engine does rev a bit high. the best solution would be an overdrive unit. with that you might actually hit 20 mpg or more on the highway. because it is an original V-8 truck it has the bigger brakes and axles, they are still drum but are fresh and work very well. clutch was just bled and works great. i have driven this truck up to tahoe in the winter and summer, during hot summer days where temps were over 105 she cruised great with temp at 190, going up hill temps got only up to 195 because she has an upgraded aluminum radiator which keeps normal driving at around 180. i run both an electric fan and a engine driven one, just in case the electric fan goes out in the middle of no where. in the winter the heater works very well to keep the inside toasty. it is an old truck so yes there are a few drafty areas but nothing major. A/C???? well of course the land rover kind... air vents in the front. just pop them open and there is your fresh ac. drove the truck between san jose and los angeles a few times with no issues, i keep the speed at 65 and just enjoy the ride. the truck is definitely a road tripper, with the exception of the amenities like adjustable seats, if many of you are not familiar with these old rovers one thing that they did not do was make it a comfortable drive. the seats do not recline back, they adjust sliding front to back but if you are a big tall person it will be a tight fit. you can upgrade to newer seats and seat rails to help but the old seat rails do not recline so you sit very upright and close to the pedals. i am 5'9" and fit perfectly. it is not as loud as the old series trucks so a stereo system can be used no problem, i have a system installed. the truck has brand new off road tires 285 75 16, they have about 800 miles on them so they are almost new. the paint is in excellent condition and is done with a rhino liner coating so it is a durable expedition ready paint. it does have that rough texture to it. i did not do the paint it was done by the previous owner. the truck also has a safari snorkel, it is not all the way connected but that can be done easily. has a new water temp gauge, oil pressure gauge works, oil temp does not. speedometer and other gauges work fine. starts up everyday and runs great. new battery as well. no power steering, no ac, just a heavy old school rover. also i do believe this is a removable top. i have not had it off but i do see the bolts that hold the top on so it probably can come off. the chassis... one of the major issues with the old land rovers is rust. this truck does not suffer from that. it does have surface rust on the frame and the rear outriggers were replaced before i bought it. the frame is solid it has surface rust over most of it and there are one or two spots that seem a bit more problematic but nothing that needs immediate attention. i have had this truck for about 4 years and never had any issues. there is a small rust hole on the bulkhead the size of a nickel or so. the battery box will need to be replaced it is starting to rust through. another typical spot is under the doors, but this rover is pretty clean under the doors. all n all it is in pretty decent shape for being original. see pics. it is a great driver, if you are looking to restore and show then you would need to really get into it and blast off all the surface rust but this truck needs to be used in the bush not in some show. the rear leaf springs are pretty much gone, the vehicle sags when anything heavy is in the back. i think i have a set (not sure i need to look) but if so i will include. a lot of people get the parabolics but i hear mixed things, the heavy duty leafs are pretty good with these trucks. i am trying to be upfront and as honest as possible to what i know about this vehicle. i have sold many vehicles and bought many off of ebay. i know what it is like when you buy something then see it arrive only to be very very surprised in a not so good way. i drive this truck about 3 times a week and love it. all the upgrades have made it a great reliable rover, she loves to climb the dirt trails as much as trips to the hardware store. either way plan on getting a lot of attention. it is a right hand drive which i love, just dont go through a drive thru by yourself. the split window upfront is also a neat touch. tropical roof with air vents, i also added an overhead console with map lights and stoage, extra power outlets for cell phone or ipod, i do have the original rear seats for the back, i took them out because i use the back section for my dogs and carrying gear. will include some new weatherstripping and rear window tracks with it along with some manuals i have for it. i also have a full length galvanized brownchurch rack. $1,000 from rovers north but i will offer to sell to whoever wins for a great deal. otherwise i will just list that separately on ebay. oh, just to clear things up, it is a 1981 109 series III titled as a 1974, registered here in cal. does not need smog checks so you can do whatever you want to the engine. truck is also currently located in los angeles, can be delivered to somewhere close for a fee. please ask questions, i welcome inspections and test drives. this is a real auction for a real car so please only make real bids with the intention of winning and buying. can help with arranging shipping, payment must be in form of cash, wire transfer or official bank check. 500.00 non refundable deposit required within 3 days of auction end. no warranty, sold as is. this is a used vehicle. i will answer all questions and can provide other pics. also here is a video that best describes the truck. On Nov-16-08 at 09:12:51 PST, seller added the following information: truck also has a brand new tuffy center console unit, remote oil filter with oil cooler, all door locks and window locks work, leather wrapped steering wheel, the carb is a holley 390cfm not 490, the mileage is not really known but the engine has been re done before i got it. i just re did the heads. runs strong. it has the typical land rover drips from gearbox but nothing really from engine, believe it or not it is pretty tight. i think that it all, ask questions, if you are in the la area come on out and check it out. oh i would also reccomend getting some sort of heatshield dynamat for the transmission tunnel a lot of heat comes up from there and on a hot day it gets hot in there, there is nothing on it right now. good luck. On Nov-18-08 at 10:34:10 PST, seller added the following information: i lowered reserve only because i could not find the rear leafs i thought i had. so i adjusted just a little. good luck.
